Alex Thomas MD is a board-certified pediatric allergist/immunologist and a cartoonist and illustrator with more than 20 years experience.

 

Medical and Creative Background

Dr. Thomas earned a BA in Art Theory & Practice from Northwestern University and his MD from Rush Medical College. He completed both his residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Allergy and Immunology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Gary Ashwal earned a master’s degree in Health Communication from Emerson College and Tufts University School of Medicine and a BS in Performance Studies from Northwestern University. He has also produced patient-narratives, patient education, and other content for many nonprofits, hospitals and healthcare companies.

We were creative producers and artistic collaborators long before we had advanced degrees in medicine and health communication. Alex and Gary met at Northwestern University working with Live Action Cartoonists — a theater company that combined live drawing, comics, and video.

And we have a vast professional network of other cartoonists, illustrators, writers, filmmakers, and health communication experts ready to work on your ideas!
