The VALUES Project

Helping diverse communities understand precision medicine concepts

Project Background

Precision medicine research relies on the massive collection of biospecimens, electronic health records, and other sources of behavioral and environmental data. The VALUES Project asked us to help explain precision medicine concepts so they could investigate the perspectives of diverse patients on the collection of samples and data for prospective longitudinal research.

Our Work

We created a metaphor of the library of medical information and a set of whiteboard videos showing how biospecimens and information are collected for use in future research. English, Spanish, and Mandarin versions of the videos were used in this research project.

Results

The study results were published in Nature's Genetics in Medicine journal, and the website continues to be a resource for researchers investigating diverse perspectives on personalized medicine.
