Family Reflections
Helping families make informed decisions about home ventilation
Project Background
A team of researchers funded by the National Palliative Care Research Center asked us to help them create a decision support tool for families considering chronic mechanical ventilation. The idea behind the website is that parents would benefit from hearing how other families have navigated this decision and the consequences.
Our Work
We produced a website that shared fictional stories based on the real experience of families who had experienced decisions in the past. Our illustrations and voice actor cast added depth and emotional reality to the stories. The user experience design encourages a linear flow through the 12 subtopics.
Results
The website is used to guide conversations with families. The project is the subject of this recent publication and received a gold award in the 2023 National Health Information Awards' Digital Health Awards.
