Sickle Cell Disease Treatment Options
Helping patients compare different treatment options
Project Background
People with sickle cell disease have more options for treatment than in the past. The disease can be managed with medication and chronic transfusion therapy. There are also potential curative therapies: bone marrow transplant and gene therapy. A team of hematologists asked us to help explain these treatment options to patients.

Our Work
We created a digital tool for people considering treatment options for sickle cell disease. The website invites people to explore options through the story of a fictional patient named Nia. The visual storytelling and parallel narratives contrast possible treatment journeys.

Results
The tool is being used as part of a research study to help explain treatment options to patients considering gene therapy.
