Sugar-Free Drinks

Explaining why sugar causes tooth decay

Project Background

This public health research project aimed to reduce the rate of tooth decay among children in the Yup'ik communities of Alaska. The project team asked us to develop educational materials to support community health workers in their conversations with local families.

Our Work

We developed a video flipbook that included pauses to prompt a community health worker to engage families in discussions on specific topics. Our character designs were based on photographs from Yup'ik communities to ensure that the clothing, locations, and objects were illustrated appropriately.
