What are brain organoids?

Explaining brain organoids for bioethics research

Project Background

Brain organoids are tiny clusters of human brain cells grown in laboratories for medical research. They can be used to study neurologic development and test new treatments for dementia. The University of Washington asked us to help them explain brain organoids and the associated bioethics issues.

Our Work

We created an audiovisual metaphor to show the similarities and differences between brain organoids and full-size human brains. The video project uses music, color, and simple visuals to provide context around how and why brain organoids are made and used by scientists.
